Visa

Hungary joined the Schengen Area on 19 December 2007. From that time visas and residence permits issued by one of the Scengen Member States are also valid for Hungary. For further information regarding entering Hungary please visit this webpage.

Currency

Hungary uses Hungarian Forint (HUF). Foreign currency is barely accepted. VISA and MasterCard are widely accepted in the city central, but surely not everywhere.

Money exchange

Change at the airport, banks and exchange offices, or withdraw from ATM, if your card is supported. Please be careful and don’t change on the street!

Transportation

Airport transfers

Please be careful and use only Főtaxi, the official partner of the airport. (You will be directed by signs and yellow colors.)

The other option is the minibus shuttle service also clearly indicated at the airport. They collect people going in the same direction and deliver them one-by-one. It costs 3200 HUF/person (12 €). The disadvantage of this service that sometimes passangers might wait even 30 minutes before departing and the way to the destination could also be longer. Both services operate their desk, you have to get your voucher there and you will be called.

On request we organize special transfers for our guests from the airport to the hotel and back.

Public transport

Budapest’s public transportation systems are operated by the company BKK. The service includes buses, trolleybuses, trams, underground trains (Metro) and above-ground suburban trains (HÉV). Buses, trams and trolleybuses run daily from 4.30 a.m. until 11.0 p.m. Three Metro lines (M1-M2-M3) interconnect at Deák tér Station, and service frequencies range from 15 minutes late in the evening to every two minutes at peak times. the Metro lines M3 and M4 interconnect at Kálvin tér Station.

Tickets or passes must be bought before boarding; except for certain buses you cannot buy them from the driver. They are available at Metro stations, tobacconists and newsstands, and from vending machines at many bus and tram stops in the city centre.

Please note that front-door boarding only policy is now in place on bus 200E serving Liszt Ferenc International Airport.
